Why practical skills matter
Healthcare is one of the few fields where skill matters more than marks. A person who can correctly check blood sugar, oxygen level, haemoglobin and urine is useful in clinics, pharmacies, health camps and homes — and families need these people more every year.
BSB Health Skills Academy was started by M.R. Balachandran, who spent 37 years in the Madras Medical College laboratory and 50 years in laboratory service overall. Classes are in Tamil, in small batches, and every student handles real equipment from day one.

What you will learn
Seven essential point-of-care tests, practised hands-on with real equipment.

Measuring body weight correctly with a digital weighing scale and recording it on a health card.

Measuring height and weight, calculating BMI and placing the result in a healthy, overweight or obese range.

Taking body temperature with digital and infrared thermometers and recognising fever ranges.

SpO₂ – Oxygen Level
Using a pulse oximeter to read blood oxygen saturation and pulse rate.

Blood Sugar
Checking capillary blood glucose with a glucometer — fasting and post-meal — using safe, hygienic technique.

Haemoglobin
Measuring haemoglobin with a point-of-care meter to screen for low blood levels (anaemia).

Screening urine with dipsticks for sugar, protein, ketones and other basic parameters.

How we teach
Hands-on from day one
Students use glucometers, pulse oximeters, haemoglobin meters and urine strips on real people, not just diagrams.
Small batches
Small groups so that every student gets personal supervision and enough practice time.
Real equipment
Training with the same point-of-care devices used in clinics, camps and home visits.
In Tamil
Concepts are explained in Tamil, with English terms introduced gradually so you can read labels and reports.
Certificate
On completion you receive a Certificate of completion from BSB Health Skills Academy.
