Health Assistant for Diabetics – 1-Month Course

Course overview

Diabetes care happens mostly at home, and families struggle to find someone trained to help. The Health Assistant for Diabetics course is a one-month programme that prepares you to support diabetic patients safely — by monitoring, recording, guiding and escalating to the doctor when needed.

It suits +1 / +2 students looking for a start in the medical field, and also family members who want to care better for a diabetic parent or spouse.

Family members can join too

You do not need to plan a medical career to join. Families of diabetic patients can join to learn how to check sugar, BP and feet correctly and to keep proper records.

Syllabus

Seven practical units, taught hands-on in Tamil.

  1. 1

    Glucometer use

Correct finger-prick technique, strip handling, reading and recording results.

  2. 2

    Blood pressure

Measuring BP with a digital or manual device and recognising high and low readings.

  3. 3

    Insulin-support basics

Storing insulin, reading pen settings and supporting a patient’s prescribed routine — never changing doses.

  4. 4

    Diabetic foot check

Daily foot inspection, early signs of ulcers and when to refer.

  5. 5

    Hypoglycaemia signs & escalation

Recognising low sugar, giving first aid and calling a doctor or 108.

  6. 6

    Diet basics

South Indian meal portions, timing and common mistakes.

  7. 7

    Record keeping

Maintaining a clear log of sugar, BP, weight and medicines to share with the doctor.

A health assistant supports and monitors; they do not diagnose, prescribe or change medicines. Those decisions always belong to a registered doctor.
